It Starts With The OwnerIt is helpful to think of the competitive intelligence technique as a system with the owner of the company being at the top. The owner is the chief motivator and is responsible for implementing a system that will allow the employees to contribute what they find.

There is so much information that needs to be gathered and interpreted; one person can’t be expected to do it all. If everyone contributes, data can be stored and analyzed for the company to benefit at a quicker rate.


But what happens if the employees aren’t motivated? A good owner will help encourage and motivate them. A good place to start is to publicly recognize their efforts and contributions to the competitive intelligence process.


What can the owner do to help motivate? There are a few things that can be done. The owner can “lead by example” by actively gathering information and sharing it with others. They can also develop a system that rewards contributing employees.
