Mr. David J. Kalinowski, President and COO of Proactive Worldwide, Inc., has been nominated as a candidate to serve on the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals (SCIP) board for 2007-2009. A voluntary position, board membership represents significant peer recognition and has a direct impact on the direction of the CI field. Mr. Kalinowski is among eight CI professionals tapped for this honor. Of these, four will emerge from the nomination process as SCIP Board Members.

A member of SCIP since 1990, Mr. Kalinowski received the Catalyst Award from SCIP in 2005. Mr. Kalinowski has authored several articles on BI topics, several for CI Magazine, and frequently shares his knowledge through dynamic presentations about BI techniques and methodologies, as well as counter-intelligence, to varied audiences, including AMA, multiple universities, SCIP Europe, the National Association of Dental Plans, and INTELCON. Mr. Kalinowski has also facilitated executive roundtable discussions at Frost & Sullivan events, on CI topics such as: Industrial and High-Tech Manufacturing Industries (2004), Demonstrating ROI and Strategic Value (2005), and Getting to the Meaning of Intelligence (2006).

Mr. Kalinowski has 16 years of experience in the competitive intelligence industry. After working as a CI analyst and consultant for five years at another research firm, in 1995, David Kalinowski and Gary Maag co-founded Proactive Worldwide, Inc.

“I’m honored to have been nominated to participate on the SCIP Board for the next three years. As a life member of SCIP and a veteran of the CI field, I have seen a lot of ups and downs. I believe the knowledge I have gained and the passion I have for CI and for SCIP will help me to be an ongoing, active contributor to the Board,” stated Kalinowski.

Melanie Wing, past President of SCIP and Director of Proactive’s Financial Services practice said, “Steering our professional society is an important responsibility and I am confident that David has what it takes to help lead SCIP into the future.”

Voting by SCIP members will take place online from October 30-November 10, 2006, at www.scip.org.

What about the other candidates. I’ll be interested to see who gets on this time. I didn’t vote for David for a simple reason: in his reasons for wanting to get elected he ignored issues such as the need for SCIP to recognise the international dimension.

There are two international candidates standing - from Israel and Brazil. If SCIP is to become a truely international organisation then both should get elected - but I doubt that they will. Why - because SCIP sees itself as a US organisation with US norms and US ways of doing things.

Perhaps this is why so many people hate the US - because US intelligence stinks. If it didn’t then we wouldn’t now have the mess in Iraq that we have. And half of US SCIP members are ex-government intelligence. So they impose the same methods on business that have been seen to fail in Iraq.

What is needed is to give non-US people a greater say!
